Conservatory Painting in Bridgend

Conservatory painting on modern semidetached house in Bridgend by Bridgend Decorators

Bridgend Decorators respray conservatory frames across Bridgend and the surrounding area.

What we cover:

  • UPVC conservatory frameworks — colour change from white to grey, black, or any standard shade
  • Aluminium conservatory frames — reprimed and repainted to match updated window colours
  • Timber conservatory frames — prepared and painted with exterior-grade finish
  • Dwarf walls and surrounding brickwork — painted to complete the refresh
  • Combined conservatory and window frame painting — single visit, single quote

UPVC conservatories installed through the 1990s and early 2000s are now at the age where they begin to yellow and stain. The modern estates of Pencoed and Coity — where conservatories were added to family semis and detacheds in large numbers — are where we see most of this work.

Replacing a conservatory costs £5,000 to £20,000 or more. Respraying the framework typically costs £350 to £1,100.

Conservatory Painting Services

Each frame material requires a different preparation system. We identify the correct approach before quoting and follow it throughout.

UPVC Conservatory Frameworks

White UPVC is by far the most common conservatory material on properties built before 2005. Over time, UPVC yellows from UV exposure and surface contamination, looking out of place alongside modern grey or black window frames fitted elsewhere on the property.

Respraying a UPVC conservatory frame requires thorough degreasing and light abrading, followed by a UPVC adhesion primer before any topcoat. We apply two topcoats by spray. Masking is substantial — every pane of glass, every seal, and every adjacent surface must be covered. The most popular colour changes on Bridgend properties are white to anthracite grey, white to dark grey, and white to black.

Aluminium Conservatory Frames

Older conservatories — particularly those fitted in the late 1980s and early 1990s — are more likely to be aluminium than UPVC. Aluminium is durable but its factory coating fades and chalks over time.

Aluminium profiles require a dedicated etch primer before the topcoat. The surface is degreased thoroughly before priming. Two finish coats by spray follow, producing a hard, well-bonded finish that handles temperature movement without cracking.

Timber Conservatory Frames

Victorian and Edwardian lean-to conservatories and some custom timber designs use timber profiles. Timber requires more preparation than plastic or metal — we assess for any rot, prime bare areas with an exterior wood primer, and apply a flexible exterior finish that handles seasonal movement.

Timber-framed lean-tos are most common on older cottages and Victorian properties in the rural areas around Merthyr Mawr and Southerndown. We strip loose or flaking paint, prime bare wood, and apply a flexible exterior gloss or satin finish.

Dwarf Walls and Colour Options

Most conservatories include a dwarf wall below the glazing. Painting only the frame and leaving a faded dwarf wall underneath produces an uneven result. We can include the dwarf wall and any surrounding render or brickwork within the same job. You might also consider combining the conservatory with a full exterior painting project.

A conservatory colour change is one of the most visually effective updates available on a 1990s property. White to grey or black transforms the look completely and ties the conservatory in with modern window frames.

Here’s How It Works

1. Assessment

We inspect the frame material, surface condition, existing coating adhesion, and glazing seal condition. We confirm scope and provide a fixed price.

2. Cleaning and Degreasing

All UPVC or aluminium profiles are cleaned and degreased thoroughly. Surface contamination must be fully removed before abrading.

3. Light Abrading

The profile surfaces are abraded with fine abrasive to create a mechanical key for the primer.

4. Masking

All glass panels, seals, hardware, and adjacent surfaces are fully masked.

5. Primer Coat

UPVC adhesion primer or aluminium etch primer applied to all profile surfaces and allowed to dry fully.

6. Topcoats

Two finish coats applied by spray. Each coat allowed to dry before the next is applied.

7. Final Inspection

Masking removed, all edges and seals checked. Touch-ups completed before we leave.

Conservatory Painting Costs in Bridgend

Prices below are estimates only. Every property is different. Call 01656 338443 for a precise quote.

Typical Price Ranges

Typical range: £350 to £1,100 depending on conservatory size and material.

Small lean-to conservatory, UPVC frame only: £350–£550. Standard 3m × 4m UPVC conservatory (common on Pencoed and Coity 1990s semis): £450–£750. Large Victorian-style or extended conservatory: £700–£1,100. Aluminium conservatory (additional masking and prep): add £100–£200.

What Affects the Cost

Frame material — UPVC, aluminium, and timber each require different preparation systems. Conservatory size — larger frames with more profile area take longer to prep and spray. Complexity — additional dwarf walls, integral window frames, or access issues all affect the total.

Combining Services

Combining a conservatory respray with window frame painting in the same visit reduces setup time and cost per item. Call 01656 338443 to discuss combining both into one quote.

If window frames, fascias, or other UPVC items are added to the same visit, total cost increases but cost per item falls — masking and setup are shared across the project.
